Fact Versus Fiction: Laser Hair Removal Edition

Blog

Laser hair removal has become pretty popular over the past decade, with more and more medical spas and cosmetic physicians offering the service. Still, as is often true with these high-tech procedures, not everything you hear about laser hair removal is necessarily true. Below, you'll find some common statements about laser hair removal, and you will learn which ones are fact and which are fiction.

Statement: Laser hair removal hurts.

Fiction.

If your technician simply aimed the laser at your skin and starting nixing hairs, that would hurt. But this is not how laser hair removal takes place. Your technician will first apply a numbing cream to your skin. Once this cream kicks in, you should not feel anything more than minor pinching as the laser works. Afterward, your skin may be just a little sensitive, like a mild sunburn.

Statement: You need more than one laser hair removal session.

Fact.

This one is actually true, unfortunately. Most patients need about three treatments in order to see the results they desire. If you have fine or light-colored hair, it will be less reactive to the laser, and you may, therefore, need more like six appointments to get rid of most hair.

Statement: Laser hair removal is not suitable for large areas.

Fiction.

Laser hair removal is often used for smaller areas like the upper lip and the bikini zone. These areas can be treated quickly and easily. However, this does not mean that laser hair removal can not also work for larger areas. There are many people who have it done on legs, backs, and bellies. It takes longer to treat these areas and it is also more expensive, but the results tend to be very good. Patients enjoy not having to shave or wax these large areas anymore.

Statement: If you have dark skin, you can't get laser hair removal.

Fiction.

This used to be true. Lasers have to be able to distinguish between the hair and the skin, and when the hair and skin are about the same color, this is harder. But while older lasers struggled with this, new ones are better. You may need more sessions if you have dark skin and dark hair, but you can still get laser hair removal.

Hopefully, you now have a better idea of what laser hair removal actually involves. It can be a great option for anyone who is tired of shaving. Book your appointment soon.

Improving The Smell Of My Hair

I have always been a naturally sweaty person, which kind of got in the way when I really started dating. I realized I was going to be left trying to smell my best around the people around me, which really made me nervous. However, a friend of mine told me about a great kind of shampoo that was meant to help people who were struggling with bad odors. The shampoo really improved the smell of my hair, and when I used it every day, it eliminated the issue altogether. This blog is all about improving your hair and skin care by changing up your products.
